چکیده

BACKGROUND A 37 year-old man presented to the emergency department complaining of six hour diffuse abdominal pain accompanied by persistent vomiting. CASE REPORT The patient had a heavy meal a few hours before. There were no signs of peritonitis. Routine laboratory examinations revealed leukocytosis, hyperglycemia and hyperamylasemia (serum amylase: 380 mg/dl, urinary amylase: 1150 mg/dl). CONCLUSION The lipid profile revealed an impressive elevation of triglycerides (4800 mg/dl) and cholesterol (1009 mg/dl) levels. The serum was extremely lipemic. The abdomen computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis of pancreatitis.

Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis in a Patient with Type IIb hyperlipoproteinemia: A Case Report and Review of the Literature in Korea

Hyperlipidemia is a rare cause of pancreatitis. It has been believed that free fatty acids released from hydrolyzed serum chylomicrons or triglycerides and chylomicrons induce hyperlipidemic pancreatitis by damaging acinar cells and capillaries. Type I, IV or V hyperlipidemic (Fredrickson's classification) pancreatitides have distinctive features of increased and heightened serum chylomicron an...

Background: The etiology and pathogenesis of hyperlipidemic pancreatitis are not yet fully understood, and the relationship between the severity and different causes of this disease is still not clear. Now the treatment of hyperlipidemic pancreatitis is mainly to reduce the elevated serum triglyceride and control the secondary risk factors. For severe hyperlipidemic pancreatitis, which can dete...

Flocculation of serum lipoproteins with cyclodextrins: application to assay of hyperlipidemic serum.

We describe the complexation of isolated and native lipoproteins by natural macrocyclic polymers of glucose ("cyclodextrins"). Treatment of serum with cyclodextrin produces an immediate flocculation of the lipoproteins. The formation of cyclodextrin-lipoprotein complexes was evident on agarose electrophoresis gels. The concentration-dependent ability of alpha-cyclodextrin to precipitate chylomi...

Plasmapheresis in the management of acute severe hyperlipidemic pancreatitis: report of 5 cases.

BACKGROUND/AIM Hyperlipidemic pancreatitis is an acute and potentially life-threatening complication of hypertriglyceridemia that can be provoked when triglyceride levels (TGL) exceed 11.3 mmol/l (1,000 mg/dl). Except for standard symptomatic treatment, plasmapheresis has been performed to rapidly reduce TGL and chylomicron levels in the blood. In 5 patients with hyperlipidemic pancreatitis, tr...
